Since he's in Europe (I can tell by the model number), he can't get the SHVC-CPU-01, which I think is the best model. The SHVC-CPU-01 has the best audio due to it having a seperate board for it, and 100% accuracy. It can also be modded to have 1CHIP-like video quality, although the page that explains how to do that is entirely in Japanese. If anyone can translate that, that would be highly appreciated. The 1CHIP also has this weird blooming effect that makes moving whites all weird. This is easiest to see in Yoshi's Island. Not to mention the inaccuracies that the 1CHIP/SNES Jr.
Has in games such as Demon's Crest, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, and A.S.P. Air Strike Patrol. The 1CHIP is just an official clone console. Even higan is more accurate than a 1CHIP (if you are using the accuracy profile). I only know how to do 2 of those things.Reading schematics is really easy.
You can just look up a table of what the symbols mean.Soldering is also really easy. I self-taught myself, but there are also plenty of really good guides on YouTube. Start off with the simple stuff first, such as making an adapter for something, or RGB modding an N64 (serial number starting with NS1), or making a VGA to SCART adapter to use emulators on a real CRT like I do when I don't have the original console. At least these games exhibit graphical and/or audio glitches only on the 1CHIPs: Air Strike PatrolTreasure of the RudrasAladdinFinal Fantasy Mystic QuestDemon’s CrestSoul BlazerMagical Pop’NSuper Ghouls N’ GhostsNone of them are game-ruining, of course. It's not surprising to not notice issues in 8 games in a library of 725 US games. You probably never played any of these, let alone side-by-side with the originals, looking for differences. There's likely a lot more differences that have simply gone unnoticed by anyone. The most compatible system, and with the best audio, is the SHVC-CPU-01. It's the original and, in my mind, the SNES.
But there's no denying that the video from the 1CHIPs is beautiful on a Sony PVM CRT over RGB.If you're using S-video or below though, it's not worth the 100% markup in price for a 1CHIP at all. It's really not worth it at all, honestly. But it has that reputation of being better, so people pay much more for them.Whether to call the 1CHIP a clone or a redesign is tricky. It's definitely an official product.
But it's also a substantial change. If all that counted was being official, we'd have to include the Wii Virtual Console as official as well. From what I've observed, a lot changed through the revisions, and the 1CHIP especially was the largest change of all. Almost all games were developed on the SHVC-CPU-01, or on dev systems that used said hardware. As such, from a purist perspective, I'm most interested in the first release of the hardware. But I'll be the first to admit that if I'm going to play through my games on my PVM, I'm probably going to go with my 1CHIP anyway. I have really good eyesight (20/10), and don't care for the blurriness of the original at all.
But even with that, it's only because I already have the 1CHIP. I think it's stupid to waste an extra $50 for the difference you get.
RetroRGB - SNES Version Compare SNES Version Compare The SNES Mini and 1CHIP consoles output a much higher quality signal then the.
But to each their own. That mod looks neat, but way, way too complicated for my skill level. According to (maker of bsnes/higan), the 1CHIP is essentially a hardware clone. Maybe he can weigh in on this if he would like. The inaccuracies are only in a few games, and they are (for the most part) minor, but I prefer 100% accuracy and better audio to picture quality. I use a CRT with a CSY-2100 clone to output my RGB consoles to it, and my SFC looks just fine.
If you couple the SHVC-CPU-01 with the mod linked above, it is the best revision of the SFC/SNES. If only I knew Japanese.
Hey guys.As you may or may not know, I'm something of a retro gaming enthusiast. And at this moment, I'm looking for something specific. What I am looking for is a Super Nintendo.
Not just ANY old SNES though. What I am looking for is the fabled '1CHIP' model.
These are basically, later revisions/iterations of the SNES, which featured noticably sharper graphics. Pixels are sharper, colors are less smeared, everything is. Basically improved. The difference can be seen here:The only TRULY certain way to check and see if you have the 1chip version is to open it up. But if your old SNES has a serial number on the bottom that starts with 'UN3,' it's very likely that it is one. If it starts with 'UN32,' it's almost certain. The reason I'm looking for this upgrade is because I am planning to get some RGB mods for my old consoles.
And I want to get the best picture quality possible. This is an ongoing project for me. A hobby that I do outside of my art.:3Problem is, prices have been extensively gouged on ebay.So. If anybody has one of these '1chip' SNES models.
I have money, and I'm willing to buy it. Or trade art for it, if you'd prefer.Naturally, I'd need to see photos of the console's condition and the serial number. A photo of the console actually playing (show the tv) would be helpful as well.So if you have one you are willing to part with, please speak up! I can assure you, it will get all the love and use it could ever want.EDIT: For those of you who are looking at your old systems for me, LOOK AT THE SERIAL NUMBER FIRST.
It's on the bottom of the console. If it doesn't start with 'UN3,' it's definitely NOT a 1chip.
